The area of Bassa Reggiana is characterized by the presence of the river Po, which flows embraced by a 10 km floodplain. This floodplain features mostly-artificial poplar groves, coastal woods, crops, oxbow lakes, flooded caves, as well as open water spots and an ancient stretch of the Crostolo, a stream also nicknamed as "Crostolina", whose path is detectable on physical maps.

There are numerous trails along which you can take enjoyable excursions, whether on foot or by bike, up on the riverbanks or down in the valleys, to discover the colorful local flora and vibrant wildlife, especially in the oasis run by Lipu and WWF. While exploring the countryside it is also possible to come across one of the most relevant archaeological sites in Europe.

Before hitting the road though, we advise you to check out our hiker's guide to Bassa Reggiana, where you can find some useful tips. Some facilities do also provide services such as bike and canoe renting, and boat trips booking
